Festival Fund reaches £1,385,950.77

The magnificent sum of £1,385,950.77 for the 2015 Festival was achieved on 30th April 2013. With more than a year still to go and lots of other fund raising events in the pipeline this figure. I’m sure, will be left far behind. Lets hope so.

Pendleside Hospice Midnight Walk 2013

The Pendleside Hospice Midnight Walk 2013 takes place on Saturday 8th June, and as usual the Freemasons of Burnley & Pendle district have offered their services to assist in the Marshalling of the route.

The Ladies, who take part in the sponsored walk and raise hundreds of thousands of pounds, are always grateful for the presence of the marshals not only along the entire route but also the car parking areas and the routes to and from them. It all goes toward a safe and enjoyable nights activities for all concerned.

The fun starts prior to the 12:00pm kick off and continues well into the early hours of the morning as the final few ladies doggedly make their way back to Burnley Football Club and the finish line.

Those from Pendle Lodge who committed to help Marshall this years event are reminded that the meeting point is the players car park at 9:30 pm for a safety briefing and allocation of Marshall points. Experience suggests you bring a flask or two and a few nibbles to get you through the early morning. It’s a rewarding night and a heck of a lot of fun, the sight of over 2000 ladies in flashing bunny ears is not to be missed.

Pendleside Hospice Call for Volunteer Marshalls

On Sunday June 2nd there is a 10K run taking place under the auspices of “Jane Tomlinson’s run for all” which is a well known cancer charity, and all sponsorship is in aid of Pendleside Hospice.

The run starts at 9.30 am at Burnley town centre taking a tour of Thompson Park and alongside the lake in Ridgewood before reaching Towneley Hall and returning to Burnley Mechanics. Pendleside Hospice is obliged to provide 20 stewards for the event and I have offered the support of Pendle Lodge and the Burnley & Pendle District to help in this respect.

Any volunteers should contact Roy Langtree with their details so that he can liaise with the Hospice.

Volunteer stewards are required to assemble for briefing at 8:00 am outside TSB on Manchester Road.

Great night at Festival Banquet

The view from the James Hargreaves stand out across the pitch is tremendous. It brought back memories from 30 years back when the stand that was there then was called the Long Side, because that was what it was, a long stretch of concrete steps with a roof on it for all the dedicated Burnley Supporters In fact I was probably standing not far from where I used to stand when I was a regular supporter.

It all looked very different now, with over 180 Freemasons in dinner suits and their wives in splendid evening wear gathered to celebrate in style with a banquet in aid of the 2015 RMBI Festival. The James Hargreaves stand is a very plush venue and one that Burnley Football Club are quite rightly very proud. On this occasion it was in use by the Freemasons of Burnley & Pendle District to help raise even more money for the Festival.

The PGM Sir David Trippier welcomed all those present and entertained us with his opening remarks and recollections of another recent dinner he had attended in the James Hargreaves suite, on this occasion however it Her Majesty the Queen who was head of the table and Sir David had his own duties to be concerned about. Suffice it to say, those present at the banquet were royally entertained by his comments.

Three Pendle Lodge members sat together on table 1 and enjoyed each others company well into the night. Paul Thornton and his wife Kathryn did an amazing job of organising the evening and presenting a rather successful raffle, which raised the huge sum of £1400 for the 2015 Festival. Our district APGM Martin Roche returned thanks for the evening and reminded us all of the reason funds are required for the RMBI and of the people on the receiving end of those funds.

The event continued with dancing and music through to 12:30am, It really was an evening to remember.

Tracing Board Explanation received

Due to Ian’s regular business trips abroad the explanation of the Tracing Board in the First Degree has been postponed or should I say scheduled for when he is in the UK. Its been several months in the making with Ian having visited both China and Mexico since his initiation. Thursday 11th however saw him and another entered apprentice Bro. Alan Johnson, a family friend of Bryon Lingards and a Freemason from Fire Brigade Lodge in Stratford-upon-Avon, both receive a wonderful rendition and explanation of the symbolism on the Tracing Board.

The Worshipful Master Roy Langtree has a long record of delivering this part of the ritual to a very high standard, and in fact he is known to offer his skills far and wide in delivering this explanation to those Lodges who request it.

All three Masters from Lodges within Nelson Masonic Hall were in attendance on the Masters Row, which was very pleasing to see. Its been a while since that’s happened but I’m sure the current masters, all of them being past masters and in the chair for second and third occasions and maybe that’s the reason behind their visit, will visit Pendle Lodge on future Lodge Nights.

The social board was well supported and the food up to the usual standards from the kitchen. Our regular raffle saw the emergence of the Canadian Redwood Whisky, which has been in the Pendle Lodge Cellar for many years now and probably raised thousands of pounds over its lifetime. Tradition suggests the whisky is so bad you wouldn’t want to take it home anyway, so the best thing to do is donate it back to the Junior Warden for use on another future evening.

It all ended rather well with an excellent response to the visitors toast by Michael Maunders and a final few minutes at the bar.
