Believe me, its an amazing sight, a sea of ladies clad in pink and adorned with various bunny ears and LED lights. Almost 1500 ladies took part in the Pendleside Hospice Midnight Walk and raised, including gift aid over £200,000 (latest figure) for the charity.
The sponsored walk, which began and ended at Burnley Football Club, was an amazing success with two routes, one of eight miles and one of five available for the walkers. It was a fantastic night and even the weather was kind, with only the odd light shower.
The Freemasons from Burnley & Pendle District volunteered to assist in marshalling the local car parks and shorter 5 mile route, taking post from the summit of Manchester Road all the way down to Gala Bingo, and with only 14 of us on the route we were pretty thin on the ground. However we did manage to cover the entire route and ensured all road junctions had a marshal in attendance. It was a great night and a fantastic way to support the Hospice
The ladies on the walk all seemed to be having fun after a gruelling uphill climb along Todmorden Road and up and over New Road and Glen View Road to the Summit of Manchester Road. It was big smiles all round on the downhill stretch back to Burnley Football Club via Centenary Way.
It was great to hear the many thanks and comments of support from the ladies for our involvement in the walk and the security provided by all the volunteers on the route.
On their return to Turf Moor, all the walkers and volunteer marshal’s received a well deserved bacon butty.
